REPORTS TO: Director of Individual Giving and Donor Affiliated Groups

GENERAL SUMMARY

 

This new position within the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association (CSOA) development team is responsible for the creation of a new National and International Friends program, as well as supporting the cultivation and stewardship of the CSOA’s more than 500 Governing Members. 

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

National and International Friends program

  • Create and establish a program to identify, cultivate and solicit prospects to the CSOA’s new National and International Friends program to harness the enthusiasm that exists for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra throughout the United States and around the world.
  • Manage a specific portfolio of donor projects with gifts ranging from $2,500 to $25,000+, with a focus on people who live outside of the Chicagoland area.
  • Responsible for developing a program that allows meaningful cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors including face-to-face visits, as well as e-mail, telephone, and mail communications.
  • Participate in management, planning and oversight of solicitation and stewardship events in relation to the National and International Friends program in Chicago and in other cities as appropriate.

 

Governing Member Duties

  • Manage all administrative aspects of Governing Members program under supervision of Associate Director, Governing Members.
  • Provide support for Governing Member Annual Fund and Nominations and Governance Committees.
  • Establish and maintain GM presence on social media.
  • Serve as a direct fundraiser with positive impact on the Development Department’s annual contributed revenue goal of approximately $27M, with a strong focus on Governing Members.
  • Attend, assist and, occasionally, manage Governing Member cultivation and stewardship events throughout the year.
  • Perform additional duties as required by the CSOA.

 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

  • Reports to the Director of Individual Giving and Affiliated Donor Groups.
  • Interacts regularly with Associate Director, Governing Members and Senior Assistant, Individual Giving Programs and Planned Giving.
  • Other contacts include: CSOA President and Music Director, donors, donor prospects, Trustees, volunteers, subscribers, staff, and Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Civic Orchestra of Chicago members.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree and three or more years of experience in fundraising, preferably in the performing arts or higher education.
  • Experience in establishing or growing specific solicitation campaigns for annual funding is highly desirable.
  • Interest in and ability to identify new donors and interact with a range of donor types.
  • Computer literacy, including word processing, database, and spreadsheet proficiency.
  • Detail oriented, with excellent verbal/written communication skills.
  • Ability to work successfully in a busy environment while managing multiple tasks.
  • Ability to travel and to work evenings and weekends, including some holidays.
