Development & Communications Intern | Eighth Blackbird

Eighth Blackbird seeks self-motivated, resourceful interns who can work independently as well as in a dynamic, nimble team environment. Interested applicants should note this is an administrative internship and that the ensemble frequently tours. While interns may attend rehearsals, concerts, administrative and artistic meetings, work will be supervised by designated staff in all areas of nonprofit management, including day to day operations, development and communications

Supervision is offered to overcome barriers, provide direction and resources, develop judgment and encourage professional and personal growth.  We aim for Eighth Blackbird interns to leave with an extended professional network and well-articulated entrepreneurial skills and experiences.

Duties for the Development and Communications Intern may include but are not limited to:

  • Assist with campaign and acknowledgement mailings
  • Support gift processing and Salesforce database management
  • Support lead project volunteer with online spring auction
  • Assist with cultivation and fundraising events on and off site
  • Manage with catering orders
  • Participate in activities associated with Eighth Blackbird's Chicago area concerts
  • Support growth of and maintain Eighth Blackbird’s email lists
  • Update events on company’s Wordpress website
  • Support communications team’s social media strategy and execution
  • Assist with merchandise inventory and sales
  • Assist with securing and submitting comps requests to presenters
  • Maintain sheet music library
  • Update Google Drive documents and Salesforce records as needed
  • Assist COO, Studio and Tour Manager and Business Manager as needed
Skills & Qualifications: 

The ideal candidate is organized, self-motivated, tech-savvy, flexible, a talented writer, and has an interest in nonprofit management, entrepreneurship, fundraising, marketing/PR, community engagement and new music.  Experience with Google for Nonprofits, MailChimp, WordPress, Excel, design and media software and any databases a huge plus, as is a sense of humor.

The Development and Communications intern will work 8 hours per week, November 15, 2018 through June 30, 2019, exclusive of holiday periods; specific days and times can be flexible. Must commit to working in the office located at 4045 N Rockwell, Chicago IL 60618 once or twice a week.  

Stipend: $1,500, paid out in bi-weekly installments.
Reports to: Chief Operating Officer.
