9th Annual Regional Juried Exhibition at the South Haven Center for the Arts

WITH (re)PURPOSE: A Recycling Fine Art Exhibition

September 15 - November 3, 2018

Breathe new life into recycled, found or obsolete items that may have been destined for the landfill.  Submissions to With (re)PURPOSE should demonstrate how one person’s trash truly can be another person’s treasure.  2-D and 3-D work is acceptable and repurposed material is encouraged.  All media welcome, maximum size 36” in any direction.

This call is open to all artists 18 years of age or over in the following states: Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin. All work must be the original work of the artist and completed in the last three years.

Jurors for the exhibition are Lawrence, Michigan artists Jeff and Theresa Heaton

The Heatons’ work is derived from the many leftover packaged items that become part of our everyday living landscape.  While creating recycled art, they’ve become personally impacted by the sheer volume of unnecessary packaging, and are more mindful of the global ecological footprint and its consequences.  Jeff & Theresa are motivated by the philosophy of creating something beautiful and functional from discarded packaging.

Therefore, responsible consuming is important for everyone -- we all live downstream.

Jeff Heaton is a retired art educator who taught for 31 years in Northwest Ohio, instructing middle school and high school students in most media including drawing, painting, design, ceramics, printmaking, weaving, and photography. Theresa incorporates various traditional and non-traditional sewing methods, creating whimsical three-dimensional pieces interwoven with personal and political statements. Moving to Southwest Michigan in 2009, they operate Cheeky Chic-y Studio, creating fiber-based recycled art from their home.
