Call to ILLINOIS Artists: Triton College, River Grove, Ill.

The Art-in-Architecture Program of the Capital Development Board is pleased to announce a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to Illinois professional artists to create permanent original public art for the Health and Science Building at Triton College in River Grove, Illinois. Deadline: Friday, November 30, 2018 4:30 P.M.

Eligibility This public art commission is open to all professional artists, artisans, or artist-led teams that live and work in the state of Illinois.

· An artist/artisan is defined as a skilled practitioner that generates designs and concepts for creative works that reflect form, beauty, and aesthetic perception. All artists on a team must be from Illinois.

· Subcontractors may be used and are defined as those providing technical implementation such as construction, fabrication, and/or assembly for portions or all of a finished product under direct supervision and control of an artist.

· Faculty, instructors, and staff of Triton College are not eligible to apply for this commission.

Project Summary Triton College is a two‐year institution of higher education dedicated to student success. Located 14 miles from downtown Chicago, in River Grove, the school offers close to 100 degree and certificate programs at its 100‐acre campus that features a comfortable, friendly and diverse atmosphere. More than 12,000 students enroll at Triton each year to take advantage of Triton’s small, accessible classes, qualified faculty, affordability and financial assistance. An existing 49,200 sf college building was transformed into a state-of-the-art 71,200 sf Health and Science Building. For more information about the campus go to

Artistic Objectives The committee is interested in an interior statement piece, pieces, or permanent installation for the space. The artwork can be free standing, wall mounted or ceiling mounted. They have no preferred theme, media, or format. The piece must be durable, safe, and cost effective to maintain.

Project Site The artwork will be located in the Health and Science Building (Building H.) The facilities in the building replicate a state-of-the-art hospital experience with sophisticated tools and equipment in simulated patient rooms, surgical suites, nuclear medicine labs, and other medical spaces. During planning and construction, the Commons was designated for artwork. However, the committee is open to artwork or permanent installations in any other public spaces in the building including the Commons stairwell.

Budget Details The budget for the project is $49,300.00.

Selection Process Three artists/teams will be selected from the pool of eligible artists/teams and paid a fee of $1,500.00 each to develop and present site specific proposals. Letters will be sent to the selected artists/teams with details of the proposal process and contracts. Do not send a proposal unless you have been contacted by the Art-in-Architecture Coordinator.
